Columbus, Ohio — Ohio State Buckeyes football team history, in the past century, has witnessed
and fallen parallel to the development of American college football. It has become one of the
most successful programs in terms of its appearances in the major bowl games, conference
championships, and professional players nourished.
In addition, the Ohio State University Marching Band, performing primarily on the football game
days, is one of the few college all-brass-and-percussion bands nationwide and the largest of its
kind worldwide. Its nickname is The Best Damn Band in the Land.
The band contains two hundred and twenty-eight student musicians, including thirty six alternate
members. Its instrumentation has been patterned after the traditional British military brass band.
This unique marching band makes use of cornets, cymbals, bass drums, tenor drums, snare
drums, flugelhorns, baritone horns, mellophones, bass trombones, trumpets, and sousaphones.
