Storrs, Connecticut — Incredibly? Inevitably? Invincibly? Will the UConn Huskies women’s
basketball team capture their 12th national championship this upcoming season?
The University of Connecticut has fallen victim to Notre Dame and Mississippi State in the last two
Final Fours respectively. Yet, under the leadership of Coach Geno Auriemma, it routed the
University of Central Florida on January 9, 2018 to become the first NCAA Division I women’s
basketball program to win 100 straight regular season games. Geno Auriemma notched his own
1000th career victory with the Huskies win over Oklahoma on December 19, 2017.
From November 17, 2014 to March 31, 2017, the Huskies reeled off an astonishing 111 recordsetting win streak. This milestone included two national championships. This is also the first team
in NCAA’s Division I women’s basketball history to win four consecutive champions.
